When the mind is Silent...

When the Mind is Silent...

Om! Om Shri Hum!

When the Mind is Silent,
The Word Flows.

When the Mind is Silent,
The Heart Grows.

When the Mind is Silent,
The Truth Glows.

When the Mind is Silent,
Om! Om! Om!

When the Mind is Silent,
.....

Curb the Ego! And let the Heart’s Petals of Virtue Open!

Curb the Ego! And let the Heart’s Petals of Virtue Open!

Om Shri Hum, Sarva Shri hum, Om Mani Padme Hum

Pride and Ego shackle the Heart,
Pride and Ego breaks the Heart,
When the heart is thus broken,
Caged by a Prison which is without walls,
Virtues and Attainments flow not.

Pride entangles the Heart,
In Delusions of Grandeur, Illusions of Greatness, Mirages of Self Importance,
For it makes he who is entangled by Self Importance
Blind to his own poisons, how fearful!

Ego cloaks the Heart,
From truth in streams of self praising rapture,
Rapture not from meditative Bliss, but of fuel that feeds the harmful pride!
Rapture from one who is of no Kindness, no Attainments, no Virtues,
But yet believes he is Most Kind, Most Benevolent, Most High!

Therefore Children and Beloved of the Divine Light!
Heed this! Heed This!
Bend your Pride and Curb the Ego…
Serve the Law*
Devote your Mind
Towards the Divine within.

Only thus will the broken heart repair,
Not to be entangled once again in attachments, pain and delusion
But to bring forth the out pouring of divine virtues,
That is not achieved, created or attained,
but awaiting the light
To cast away the shadow, to illumine the room of the heart
And Rediscover what was already present , that which was already there.

Of pujas, offerings and external practices

Why would I want to be a sponsor of prayers and rituals?

Many people ask why they should be contributors or sponsors towards activities of monastic prayers, offering rituals, making, gilding or refurbishment of holy images. One thing of course must be made clear, all of the above mentioned are NOT done FOR the divine deity involved, but really it is a method for the devotee to help themselves.

Such activities are usually only done or performed when one is in “low luck”, trouble or the like. It is not uncommon, that in times of relative happiness most of us are very seldom aware of the divine in our lives. And it is during times when our energy or luck is on“low ebb”, that is when our spirit is really telling us, that we need to also nurture the spiritual nature within us.

During times like this, it is helpful to know that our troubles are not the hand of God or Buddha or Divine striking with supreme wrathful and anger… no! How can the Divine who is the epitome of love and care do that? It is really the accumulated deeds of our own doing from our near and distant past that have come to haunt and ask for payment like a loan shark. This is what eastern spiritual paths call karma. Sow the seeds of Discord, nourish it with Water of Hate, Anger and Jealousy and VOILA! Like magic some time later we will be wonderful Harvesters of Pain and Chaos! On the flip side of course Sow seeds of Love and Kindness, fertilized with a Caring Heart and reap the juicy fruits of Joy and Happiness.

When the Harvests of Pain and Chaos strike, is there a possibility of respite or escape? Of course there is, although the deed itself cannot be totally erased, it CAN be purified or minimized BEFORE it manifests and rear its ugly head of pain. but, if the effects/ harvests of the deeds have already borne fruit, there is no way to erase it, it is like rain that has fallen, we can only lessen its effects and let it run its course with minimal loss.

How do we do that? It can be done by the power of Regret, Conscious Remedial efforts and the excellent power of Divine Prayer.

The Power of Regretting our harmful deeds or some spiritual paths call confession of faults. Confession is not towards only the divine but also towards other people whom we have consciously or unconsciously hurt of harmed in our lives. If the feeling of regret is sincerely arisen deep from within one’s heart and soul, it is said multitudes of negativities can be instantly pacified!! But are we truly sorry for our deeds? How sincere is that feeling? We can lie to others but never to our own hearts. Also, what about deeds that we do not even remember, and therefore cannot BE regretful for? In this case, the next methods can be better utilized to help us.

The Power of Conscious Efforts. If by planting seeds of malevolence we reap the fruits of pain, so too, when we plant the seeds of benevolence we are cultivating a harvest of Love and Light. It is said, that the simplest yet effective way to create energy of benevolence is to rejoice in the happiness of others. I mean really rejoice, not say, “Oh I am soooo happy he struck LOTTERY! But…..” when there is a “BUT….” There is no true rejoicing. For the Buddha has told, by rejoicing in the benevolent activities of others we are inadvertently plant powerful mind seeds in our spiritual bank to invoke the self same energies in our lives too! Like… if we see on CNN members of Red Cross helping the victims of disasters and in our hearts deep happiness arises that the poor victims have received help, in that moment the power of the mind has planted noble seeds of Care and Comfort in our mind stream. It has bestowed upon us the energy that one day we have the ability to bring comfort to others AND also, to receive help when WE ourselves become victims of any disasters! THIS is the cheapest way to receive the highest benefits!

Of course, there are those that prefer the hands on methods like physically going into the frays of disasters, and bringing hope, bringing comfort and rescuing those trapped in situations of despair. Such nobility is far and few, but it truly plants within our lives the energy of nobility, courage and helpfulness. Not many of us are able to go “hands on”... and thus we have the 3rd method to then fall back upon…

The Power of Prayer and Offering Rituals. This is probably the most powerful and quickest of methods in the pacification of our negative luck or situations. When one is able to do that which others find very hard… THAT is courage and nobility but to be able to do that which others find impossible, THAT is Divine. By performing prayers of supplication, prayers of purification and prayers of Love and Light, we are calling upon the energies that perform that which seems impossible! So during times of for example sickness, many seekers of the path are even able to extend their lives, cure diseases and avert calamities by way of prayers.

But since most of us are unable to do those practices ourselves, many teacher recommend easier methods. Like those who have the good fortune of being born in an affluent family or maybe a self made business person, they are sometimes encourage to sponsor prayers to be done in monasteries by providing the monks and nuns ( or even laity in some cases ) with food and drinks for the duration. Imagine! If we had the capacity to request 5000 monks and nuns to pray for us…. 5000 chanting throats and prayerful hearts… all invoking the powers of healing, blessings and compassion… and dedicating it all towards our wellbeing!!! Oh… if only I was so lucky!

Truth is… not all of us have the capacity to buy lunch for a few thousand people so, teachers will recommend a more modest method. That is self-help (or with family and friends) the modest method requires much dedication in terms of sacrificing our time, our efforts and personal devotion to one’s deity. In performing prayers or even prayer-like activities ourselves, we are going deep within our inner self and connecting that with the flow of outer divine blessings. It is this connection of Human and Divine nature, that causes miracles to truly happen.

For example, by making a holy image or even causing a holy image to be made (because we order so the shop will make) we have made a connection to manifest a “physical form” of the divine to be on earth. So that, this very deity that inspires faith and devotion within us, can now be shared by all who come across it. And each time, any passes by looks at that image, makes offerings and prayers to the qualities which the image represents, each of those moments when a prayerful heart arises, a loving spirit manifests or a noble mind expands, a part of those wonderful energies are thus sent towards the benefactor who sponsored the image that these people can have the chance to bring about such peaceful moments in their lives.

The same goes for any rituals and offerings, as each ritual has deep powerful meanings within them, so the same benefits of the offerings and rituals will also be created by our minds. Like Liberating of Animals, it is a wish to the divine for ourselves as well to be ‘set free’ from whatever fears and problems that shackle and cage our lives.

These are but some of the many possible methods to purify and pacify obstacles in our lives. If we are able to do all, all the better for us, if not we can only serve to do what we are able to. It would serve us well to remember, that whatever method we choose to attempt, a spirit of sharing, joy and love is the key in which to transform a simple act of offering a beautiful candle of light into a profound act of miracles and liberation to bring Peace, Hope and Love into the world.

A life of Total "Obstaclelessness"

To Pray to Kuan Yin for a Life that is totally Obstacle Free is a Fool's Prayer, for obstacles are precious moments for us to develop a kind and virtuous heart. Maybe... I feel... it is better to Pray that should we ever meet with Obstacles again ( which we all will ) may those obstacles then be tools that aid us to Free ourselves from Living the Life of a Fool.

Divine Opportunities by the Mother

In times of dire needs, when one meets with situations that hamper our progress, dishearten our morale and enshackle one's very spirit... THAT is the time we should rejoice that the Divine Mother has given us a opportunity so precious! !

When one wonders, Why me? Why me? Then one has missed the forest for the trees. One has to look back and reflect, if one had made a resolution to pratice the Spiritual Path? If that is true... THIS is the essence of practice. Without challenges, there can be no advancements, how one faces ones Challanges' jaws is how far one will progress along the Spiritual of making oneself a better person. Therefore tread it with courage, an iron clad will power and most of all with love, Wisdom and kindess.

With one's friends or alone if one has enough strength of spirit, learn to look beyond the problem in front of oneself, SOLVE the immediate problem for sure, but ALSO seize this precious chance bestowed upon oneself by the Divine mother to practice! For without the harsh words of a wicked person, how else are we going to develop and understand Patience, how are we going to exercise Restraint for the sake of developing peace? and how else is one going to develop Humilty. For it is only in situations like these will the development of the Good Heart and Noble Mind arise! Then again... maybe it's not development... maybe in some of the cases, it could be a Re-awakening of Goodness that was already within oneself , in the first place! Only it has been displaced, and awaits ones efforts to uncover, re-awaken, re-discover and to further progress on one's spiritual journey from the point where one had stopped in times of yore.

This is how shackles turn to dust and bind no more.

When we encounter...

When one encounters troubled times in Life... Fret Not!
When one encounters disturbing people that burn and corrode your Heart... Hate Not!
When one encounters overwhelming obstacles... Fear Not!

Fret not, Hate not, Fear not! For the Great Divine Mother is with us!
And in her Compassionate gaze will we regain the harmony of Peace.
Hold we should the Heart Essence of the Divine Mother within our own Hearts,
For therein lies the key which brings about the peace in which we seek.

For in Divine Mother's heart are the virtues of Compassion,
Where Fretfulness will evolve into Confidence and Steadfastness,
Hate will transform into Love and Inspiration,
and Fear change into Courage and Tenacity.

With each encounter is a Lesson learnt,
With each encounter is a Virtue earned,
With each encounter is a Habit turned,
With each encounter is a step closer to the heart of our Beloved Divine Mother;
Kuan Shih Yin Pusa Mahasattva.

How Divine!

Whatever divinities we worship, how many heads, how many arms or feet.... with exotic forms or today beyond the human concept of form... utterly powerful and held in awe or peaceful with aurum of attraction to inspire... all that does not matter if within our hearts of hearts we are wicked, mean and nasty reflecting a heart that is totally undivine, unjust and unspiritual. To be an unspiritual "regular person" but yet with a kind heart can bring us closer to the Divine, than if we are "seemingly" Spiritual externally, commanding and enforcing spiritual values upon others but ourselves are wrought with Anger, Jealousy, Hatred and Pride. If we are one of those "Divine Prefects" then even being in an Order of Supreme Spritual Salvation wouldnt save us or bring anywhere near the pearly gates of Light and Love.... If you were the Divine... Which of the two would you want to be your ambassador? Who would you think is more deserving of a Divine paradise?

As Spiritual Seekers, we all want to spend our lifetime serving the divine with all our hearts and all our souls and all our minds, not by being zealots who DESTROY buildings of heathen enemies and killing 1000s of "sinners" and "chosen ones" in the process, or rampage through a nation insistent on mowing down their culture. It is done by being people who reflect the Glory of the Divine by being just a Kind, Caring, Loving, Compassionate and Inspirational people or at the very base, to just be a good friend to others just as we want others to be for us... When we are able to get over the Ego-Trip of being Divine Custodians and just be a Divine person in our Hearts, Spirit and Minds, then we are already serving more than a little time for the Universal Divine... for in that way our whole life BECOMES a living prayer. A total service to the Universal Divine by first inching our way to be Divine ourselves.

Spiritual Arrogance, the Bane to All Spiritual Advancements

Spiritual arrogance is a giant bane to many a practitioner set upon the path of Inner evolution. It's poison and talons are so subtle, many a times it eludes even the most advanced of practitioners to the fresh beginner. It is when one feels one is DEVELOPED, ATTAINED or ADVANCED and especially when pridefully one feels BETTER or MORE QUALIFIED than the next person without actual substance, THAT is when one will see the stagnation and regression of one's practice.

Arrogance stops the flowing tide of ones inner spiritual river of wisdom and learning. The overwhelming greed for recognition that is needed to feed one's Spiritual arrogance dries up all that which flows within oneself. The river of learning, the brook of insight or even the stream of inner knowledge and knowings. It stunts all that grows and kills that which is fruitioning beneficial virtues or flowering of noble qualities.

Spiritual arrogance deludes oneself from true sight. It cajoles one to believe that which is Hollow is full of attainments and virtues. It distorts ones understanding into believing that which is helpful advice to be harmful criticism, it provokes the seething Ego to lash out into wicked criticism and belittling of others, berating their Spiritual path or Practice and up to even taking charge and meddling into the daily lives of others who asked not for help.

Be aware of Spiritual Arrogance,
Be awakened from the lulls of Spiritual Pridefulness
and Be Mindful of the dangers wrought by Spiritual Haughtiness,
For if one loses focus of them these 3 can bring certain defeat!

Keep Awareness by the Practice of Simplicity!
Stay Awakened by the Strength of Humilty!
Remain Mindful by the Truth shown in Gentleness!
For through these 3 virtues the harmful overtures of Spiritual Arrogance can be overcomed,
And victory can certainly be ours.

For without the curbing of one's Arrogance, there is no way any of the 6 Great Virtues and beyond can be perfected. That is a reminder that with well-fed Arrogance looming around ,No Form of Spiritual Advancement can be won.... No Virtues can be attained... and no Learning can be received, because one's Egoistical Arrogance Already pridefully Knows!!!!!!...
